The Churchill-Roosevelt Cup series is a salute to Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Theodore Roosevelt, both famous leaders who served gallantly in their respective country’s military and who were avid polo players. The teams competing are expected to be serving military personnel from the United Kingdom and the United States. It is a reciprocal series to the Chapple Cup Series of three polo matches played in the United Kingdom by US military personnel in July 2022.
Two-time champion Army (Captain Patrick Shanahan, Lieutenant Colonel Amos Peterson, Cadet Grace Beck) returned to reclaim the title and faced off against defending champion Navy (Lieutenant Commander Sang Yi, Lieutenant Michael Muldoon, Petty Officer Second Class Alex Jenkins) in a rematch of last year’s final contest. After a physical four-chukker match, Army edged out the competition in the third to steal the lead and defeat Navy 9-8.

On Sunday, October 9th the National Arena Commander-in-Chief Cup was hosted by the Army Polo Club at the Great Meadow Foundation near Middleburg, Virginia. The defending Army Team (Chief Warrant Officer Joe England, Lieutenant Colonel Amos Peterson, Captain Patrick Shanahan) had to give up the title to the 2022 champions of the Navy Team (LCDR, JAGC, USN Andrea Logan, Lieutenant Michael Muldoon, Petty Officer Second Class Alex Jenkins)
The USPA Armed Forces Committee gave military players the opportunity to travel to the UK for the three- match series Chapple Cup in early July. The US team faced experienced players of the U.K. Armed Forces Polo Association in some friendly yet competitive rivalry matches. We hope to be able to host the British team for some matches in the US soon.

On September 25th members of the MEF teamed up with Liberty Hall to play in the District Cup. It is a special event that gives players the unique possibility to polo on America’s front yard, the National Mall in Washington DC, while attendees are able to watch the oldest team sport known.
